We spoke to Sherry, Lovishly’s founder, to learn more about her company and why she chose to support TWLOHA.

TWLOHA: Can you tell us a little about Lovishly and what you do?

SHERRY: Lovishly is a company founded on the belief that every story matters. Our necklaces are made to tell stories, start conversations, and to give others the opportunity to support amazing causes. At Lovishly, our goal is to raise awareness, give back, and give others the opportunity to get involved in loving others lavishly.

TWLOHA: Throughout the year, Lovishly donates 15 percent of its sales to nonprofits. Why is it important for you to give back in this way?

SHERRY: At Lovishly we partner with causes that are important to us. The Lovishly family is made up of many diverse individuals with different experiences and stories. Giving back to different causes gives us a platform to talk through difficult issues. It also gives other people the opportunity to give back to causes that are important to them. It’s a clear and tangible way for everyone to be a voice and be the change in the world.

TWLOHA: For the next two weeks, Lovishly is donating 15 percent of its sales to TWLOHA. Why did you choose to support our organization?

SHERRY: TWLOHA does a great job at bringing awareness to an issue that most people struggle to talk about. Not only do you give a voice to the issue of mental illness, but you also provide opportunities for relationships. There is something beautiful about knowing you are not alone in your battles.

TWLOHA: Have you had any personal experience dealing with mental health or the stigma associated with it?

SHERRY: As young teenagers, both my husband and I struggled with depression. To us this is not just another “issue.” We know firsthand the pain that comes from deep depression. I spent several months at different hospitals working through different issues. During this time, I developed relationships with others who also struggled with mental illness in many different ways. I found healing and was able to see my faith in a new light; I will always remember this time as not something I am ashamed of, but something that has shaped me and made me into the mom, daughter, and wife I am today.

TWLOHA: You’ve also designed two pieces of jewelry that will benefit TWLOHA. Can you tell us about the pieces and what inspired the designs?

SHERRY: Our first necklace says love on one side with a quote by C.S. Lewis on the other. The quote says, “to love at all is be vulnerable.” This speaks to my own personal experience knowing that when I love, I love deeply. When you open up yourself in that way, the pain that can be experienced runs deep, but I think it makes loving that much more beautiful. To know deep hurt and still be willing to love shows a great amount of respect and hope for the relationship at hand. It also shows the great healing that has been experienced in my life. Without healing, I might never love; but by God’s grace, he continues to heal me and give me the opportunity to love others.

Our second necklace says, “you are not alone.” One of the most difficult things about struggling with mental illness is the feeling of isolation. Our hope is that others might wear this necklace as a tangible reminder that they are not alone. We hope it will be a real reminder that they are loved.

TWLOHA: What do you hope that people who wear the TWLOHA-inspired pieces will take away from the messages on your jewelry?

SHERRY: Our hope is that our jewelry will help people feel connected. Our jewelry is made to tell stories. Our necklaces are not just necklaces, but they are conversation starters, a way for people to talk about difficult issues. Some may wear our necklace in honor of someone else, while others may receive it as a gift. No matter your reason for wearing the necklace, it gives people the opportunity to stand together.
