The Story of Caroline.

By Chris YoungbloodSeptember 11, 2013

**After launching our World Suicide Prevention Day / National Suicide Prevention Week campaign, we came across the organizations You Can NOT Be Replaced ® . You Can NOT Be Replaced, a charitable organization located in Manasquan, NJ, is the owner of the trademark YOU CAN NOT BE REPLACED ® . You Can NOT Be Replaced ® grew out of a desire to inspire the youth in their area, where there have been several student suicides. You can learn more about You Can NOT Be Replaced ® at www.youcannotbereplaced.com. Emily Dayton, whose family founded You Can NOT Be Replaced ®, shared here how this work has impacted her community for the better.

The way she describes the little things, the things that make you who you are and that make you irreplaceable is perfect. A lot of times those little things make you feel abnormal and like you’re not doing something the way everyone else does or the way you should. But those little things mean the world to those around you.

It’s amazing that you want to help spread the love of the deceased ones. Nothing as bad as this should ever happen. But it did. I know its a great loss for the deceased. It’s very sad. No one should be ever treated like this. When these kind of things happen, we need to immedietly do something about it because no one especially myself wants this to happen again.

Love……My daughter had so much love in her life. Wherever Sarah was there were people laughing and giggling and grinning from ear to ear. She was infectious!! So much happiness that’s why this situation is so hard to understand. Sarah has so many friends and family members that love her and not one of us can understand why she would take her life. No one will ever be able to replace her. She was one of a kind!! Remember all the people you leave behind that must pick up the pieces and move forward. That is no easy task.

Robynne I’m sorry for your loss. As a 16 year old I had a friend take his own life and the question of why haunted me for years. I recently read a quote that said, “Suicide does not end the chance of life getting worse, suicide eliminates the possibility of it ever getting better.” God bless your family.

The best thing about this video is the irony that I myself discovered the first time I saw Caroline after Sarah’s death. I ran up to her in tears, expecting to collapse, but Caroline stood strong and said, “Why are you crying? Those better be happy tears! It’s time to be happy.”

It was ironic because, while Sarah was my best friend, she was Caroline’s sister. And yet she was being the strong one. I considered Caroline my little sister, but she was being the bigger sister. That’s when I saw Sarah shining through her. It was amazing, and I will never forget it. I will never forget Sarah either.

I’m sorry that no one will never know “why”, but now you’re helping others who might be facing the same situation Sarah was in. And always remember:
“to the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”

I am so very proud of this young lady. Caroline is making the most of each small fun silly annoying loveable feeling that she has about her sister. I fully understand what she is feeling and wanting to accomplish! I celebrate my daughter’s life with each breath that I take. THere are moments I am sure that she has a down moment but there are so many of the good moments that keep us going. She is the person that we all should look up to when our loved one leaves earth to fly with the angels. I am very proud of Caroline and her stamina to remove the stigma!

This video was very touching. It is true, you can not be replaced no matter what because you are someones something. You are a mother, or a sister, or a aunt, or a father, or brother, or uncle or best friend or something. You matter to someone even if you don’t know it.

A year has passed and it was so so difficult living without Sarah. But we are ready to start the healing process……..my family and I survived Sarah’s birthday without her, Christmas, New Years Eve and Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day and the hardest for me Mother’s Day. I cried the entire day couldn’t stop the tears. I miss my daughter so much that I feel like sometimes my heart is going to just stop beating from all the pain I’m feeling. One of my friends wrote “to the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world”. Such profound words. That’s what Sarah was to me!!! The world! On March 17, 2014 we started a new beginning. My family, friends and ZTA, Sarah’s sorority at VT are raising money for TWLOHA which will be donated to the organization in Sarah’s name. We are getting busy because we must make a change. I do not want anyone to ever have to go through what my family and I are going through.

      Hi Robynne,

My name is Bryan and I’m the newest addition to the team at TWLOHA. I’ll be working with our university grassroots program helping college students spread hope and healing on their campuses as well helping them connect their community to help.

I saw this post because I actually just was connected with Kelsey and ZTA and am going to be doing everything I can to help make the event in memory of Sarah as meaningful as possible. I wanted to encourage you on this new beginning you are venturing on and thank you for having the courage to share Sarah’s story to give hope to others.

Just two weeks ago I lost a good friend I grew up with, and am hoping to do the same as you: to take his life and legacy to give others hope. Thank you for reminding me of how important that is, and that it is worth it.

If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out. My email is [email protected]. We are here to support you and I am excited to do what I can to help Kelsey in the coming weeks.

      Bryan
