MOVE Community Conference

MOVE is our way of equipping and educating others about the topics we address at To Write Love on Her Arms: depression, addiction, self-injury, suicide, anxiety, eating disorders, and the role a trusted community plays in bringing hope to those who feel broken. In a one- or two-day workshop led by professional counselors, we explore what is behind these struggles, what drives them, what recovery looks like, and how we can make a difference. MOVE’s aim is to battle stigma and shame with honesty and compassion, and the hope is that attendees will leave encouraged, inspired, informed, and equipped with a framework to have a positive impact on their communities.

Bring MOVE to Your Community

We believe there is a real need for helpful, honest, compassionate, and informed conversations about mental health topics to take place on all levels—personal, local, cultural, and societal. After holding 19 conferences in cities across North America, our hope is for more communities to join us in starting the conversation in the place they call home. TWLOHA offers two options for organizers to bring the MOVE curriculum and conversation into your community.

MOVE Community Conference

The MOVE Community Conference takes place over the course of two days and offers the full MOVE curriculum. Licensed counselors help attendees examine the impact and interplay of brokenness, stigma, and shame on mental illness in today’s society. With brokenness as our framework, the conference is devoted to sessions discussing each of the following issues:

  • Addiction
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Self-Injury
  • Eating Disorders
  • Suicide and QPR Training

While we cannot say everything about these topics in such a short time, attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of each of the issues, including their causes and risk factors, current research, and options for treatment and recovery.

MOVE: Focus

MOVE: Focus is a one-day workshop on specific MOVE topics your community wants to explore. In this format, a community has the freedom and flexibility to select up to four (4) topics that our licensed counselors will lead your community through. Similar to our full MOVE Community Conference, MOVE: Focus explores the issues through the context of brokenness and helps attendees examine the impact and interplay of brokenness, stigma, and shame on mental illness in today’s society. MOVE: Focus is a great option for communities that are looking to tailor the MOVE experience to serve their community’s goals.

Who should attend MOVE?

MOVE is for people who are looking for a way to engage others in conversations about difficult topics that must be talked about. We believe this is the greatest step we can take in helping our communities move toward recovery and prevention. MOVE is intended for students, mentors, parents, neighbors, pastors, professionals, and everyone in between. Whether you’re an individual who is new to these topics entirely or a professional who has worked in a clinical setting for years, MOVE is an opportunity to advance the discussion of mental health in your area. Because these topics affect all ages, genders, races, and socio-economic groups, the conversation must occur across these lines as well. Whatever role you play in your community, family, school, church, or career, MOVE can better equip you to take this understanding into the various areas of your life.
