Mental Health Month 2023

By To Write Love on Her ArmsMarch 14, 2023

Show up for yourself. And then keep showing up for yourself.

Loving and caring for our mental health doesn’t have to be an “every now and then” special occasion. Things like spa days, vacations, and movie nights are all great, but what would it look like if self-care was an everyday part of our routine instead of some exceptional event? How can we learn to make caring for ourselves the new normal?

This May during Mental Health Month we want to explore intentional habits for mental well-being that you can make part of your routine over time. With persistence and dedication to prioritizing the compassion and support you deserve, the seemingly smallest of actions can be a recurring reminder to your brain that it’s worth taking care of.

Our minds, hearts, bodies, and communities are the pillars that lay the foundation for how we interact with ourselves and the people around us. When we focus on our physical health, we don’t focus on just one part. We spend time taking care of our teeth, our eyes, our skin, and so on. Mental health is no different. There are many facets of you that deserve to be nurtured.

Finding that balance can take time, space, and guidance, and that’s why we’re tackling this together.

We’re inviting you to join us in the “Minutes for Mental Health” Challenge and commit to spending 20 minutes a day showing up for yourself, and then seeing what it might be like to keep showing up—again and again and again. Be stubborn in the pursuit of the inner love you deserve.

This spring is looking a little different from past years as we shift our attention to this brand-new initiative in honor of Mental Health Month. We’ve loved the amazing moments and impact of both the Run For It 5k and our Black & White campaign over the years, and we know there may be some disappointment that comes with not doing them in 2023. But we’re excited to merge these campaigns into one that allows us to meet people where they are with something new and the tools they need to care for themselves in a more complete way. Our hope is that by creating a customizable experience, more folks will be able to participate in whatever ways they choose—perhaps even by running or walking a 5k at some point during May.

With that being said, we wanted to take some time to respond to the questions you might have. If you don’t see your question here, please feel free to email it to [email protected] or [email protected] for fundraising-related questions.

Can I still run a 5k for TWLOHA?

Absolutely! Completing a 5k—all at once or a little bit at a time—could be your commitment to connecting with your body by moving it. And doing it with friends or family members would add a community aspect!

Can I still fundraise as I have in the past?

There is a fundraising component to this year’s campaign, but it’s happening through our “Minutes for Mental Health” Challenge group on Facebook. We would love to have your help raising funds for TWLOHA that make it possible to help thousands of people access mental health resources in their communities.

How does the Facebook Challenge work?

The challenge is set up in a group on Facebook (launching April 3rd). Once you join, connect to TWLOHA’s Challenge hub in Messenger using the links provided. You’ll be able to log your activities right within Messenger as well as set up a fundraiser to support TWLOHA!

Can I still fundraise on other platforms?

Yes, you can still fundraise on Classy, our donor platform.

When do I have to sign up by?

We recommend purchasing your Mental Health Month Pack by April 15 in order to receive it by May 1.* However, you can start your 30-day commitment whenever you receive your toolkit. We’ve intentionally opted not to put dates on the progress tracker to give you flexibility. You’re welcome to join the “Minutes for Mental Health” Challenge group even if your toolkit hasn’t arrived yet.

*Please note that international orders can take one to four weeks to arrive after being shipped depending on customs and other shipping delays.

      Hey Erin!

So the pack items are not available for purchase on their own. We know this probably isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but our intention is to provide a collection of tools for participating in the challenge.

      TWLOHA

    Hi,
I appreciate your mission and the work you put in. Unfortunately, I think this year’s initiatives and messaging are unclear. The 5k was something tangible that people could do as a community. Please reconsider offering it as an annual activity.
    Regards,
    Eric
