You’re Invited: TWLOHA Movie Hometown Screening

By Jessica HaleyFebruary 18, 2015

The first time I stepped onto the set of “Renee,” the movie now known as “To Write Love on Her Arms,” it was exactly four years ago today. It was fun, it was exciting, and it was definitely surreal. There were no actors on set yet, just a bunch of people working hard behind-the-scenes. I was there to help create the set for the TWLOHA office, using notes, photographs, and posters from our actual office.

It made me nervous wondering how a group of strangers could tell a story so personal to my brother Jamie, the rest of my family, Renee, our staff, and our supporters. In the weeks to follow, I would watch Chad Michael Murray, my former “One Tree Hill” crush, become the guy who always greeted my mom with a hug. As he played my brother, he would stop a scene to ask Jamie a question, just to be sure he got it right. That meant a lot to all of us. I’d sit quietly while Kat Dennings mesmerized us all with her ability to remain “clocked in” from the moment she arrived on set. I would learn the world of set times, stand-ins, and checking in extras at all hours of the night. I gained many friends and watched as David, Renee, Jamie, and Josh made new memories.

Weeks turned into months, months turned into years, and so many times we thought the movie would never get released. And yet, here we are today. Thanks to Sony Pictures, the DVD and digital HD download will be released on Tuesday, March 3. But before we get to that, it’s time for a celebration!
