People who have tattoos get them for different reasons. For me, they become a solution to a puzzle that keeps me distracted from thoughts of self-harm.

Though I, like the rest of the world, mourn the loss of the wonderful, energetic, kind, and hilarious Robin Williams, his death proves what I have already learned the hard way: Mental illness knows no bounds.
I tell my students there will always be these kinds of people, the people who do not believe what they have to say.
We’re letting them know that it’s OK to ask for help. We’re letting them know that being a survivor of depression and suicide is not something to be ashamed of.

We all need someone fighting for us, and while it may not always look the same, we are called to fight for one another.
I used to be so afraid. Now I tend to simply see myself as a work in progress and respect my own evolution.
When you are both too little and too much, slowly but surely, the idea of not being enough will ingrain itself in your soul.
Having a full schedule can seem to be a mark of accomplishment. But perhaps valuing ourselves means setting aside time.
